Putting patients first requires more than world-class clinical care – it requires care that addresses every aspect of a patient’s encounter with Cleveland Clinic, including the patient’s physical comfort, as well as their educational, emotional, and spiritual needs. Formalizing our commitment to this important work, Cleveland Clinic was the first major academic medical center to make patient experience a strategic goal, the first to appoint a Chief Experience Officer, and one of the first academic medical centers to establish an Office of Patient Experience. Led by Adrienne Boissy, MD, the Office of Patient Experience’s mission is to ensure consistently patient-centered care by partnering with caregivers to exceed the expectations of patients and families. Our team of professionals serves as an advisory resource for critical initiatives across the Cleveland Clinic health system. In addition, we provide resources and data analytics; identify, support, and publish sustainable best practices; and collaborate with a variety of departments to ensure the consistent delivery of patient-centered care. Best practices are used in healthcare to deliver quality care that promotes optimal outcomes. The Office of Patient Experience has been identifying best practices throughout the enterprise to streamline patient experience initiatives and has dedicated staff who serve as experts in each domain of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. They monitor national and local HCAHPS trends to identify how the top performing hospitals identify and maintain success. They consult with Cleveland Clinic institutes and community hospitals to identify, implement and promote best practices. They also perform unit observations to sustain best practices, which are promoted and shared so that other areas of Cleveland Clinic may replicate. Cleveland Clinic strives to be the safest place in healthcare. Along with leadership commitment and robust process improvement, advancing a culture of safety is at the core of Cleveland Clinic’s efforts to promote high reliability across the health systems in both clinical and non-clinical environments. Every caregiver finds what could go wrong, speaks up, and works to improve it. They listen, learn, and then lead to create effective, enduring solutions.
This addition gives the Clinic a total of 21 heart, 3 oncology, 5 neurology, 2 transplant and one bariatric clinical area. As the Clinic extend it network, they will be focusing more on quality of care they provide for a better clinical outcome. I see the Cleveland Clinic extending their brands well across the world and attracting more national employer and employee. I see the Cleveland Clinic joining many other hospitals affiliates as they work together to accelerate improvements in heart care, research and to support better patients outcomes. Since the beginning, the Cleveland Clinic has grown by leaps and bounds. They have done this by building a large network and expanding and extending its presence. The Clinic has a system where excellent doctors and caregivers can perform at their best, advance their profession and provide first-rate care for all its patients. The Cleveland Clinic continues to follow its mission and work on making their vision come to life. They are known as a national leader and have a superb model of healthcare. The physicians treat the most complex medical cases in the U.S. and around the world. They excels in providing specialized medical care supported by research and education. It is putting patients first as it focus on measurable quality. They have established and met benchmarks to measure and improve the quality of care they are providing. They have encouraged and empowered discovery in research, education and patient care (Sorrell, J., (November 9, 2012). The executive and senior leadership are committed to enhancing the patient experience.
Four renowned physicians founded Cleveland Clinic in 1921 with a mission to provide better care of the sick, investigation into their problems, and further education of those who serve. Cleveland Clinic is a physician-led organization anchored by a 1,450-bed main campus that is one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the country.
