Was the United States Government More of a Protector and Promoter of Freedom or an Abuser of Freedom?

America is the universal symbol of freedom. But is it really free? Does the history of the United States stay true to the ideas of our forefathers? Or has the definition been altered to fit American policies? Has freedom defined America? Or has America defined freedom? I believe America was at first defined by freedom, then after time, America defined freedom, altering the definition to fit the niche it fits in, but still keeping key components so it still seems to be staying true to the ideas of America’s founding fathers.

Religion is more of a hot topic and one that I would not want to go into deeply. There have been so many deaths for centuries because of it. Who is right? Who is wrong? I say both because this is a personal choice and whatever you believe to be right is. America, despite suffering much from the war on religion, has been open to letting all practice the faith that they desire. This is among the top defining features of how American freedom looks like. You can worship in your way. Sadly, it is the opposite of specific regions. Many have been executed because of holding different religious beliefs. Even immigrants in this nation are not denied a chance to worship as they please, unlike some countries where practicing a religion different from theirs is a cause for arrest or even execution. An essay on freedom always has a way of letting us see how flawed we are as human beings

Why would we want to force our faith onto someone else when it is a personal decision? Regardless of our religious beliefs, we should coexist with each other. The liberty to realize your dreams only happens in America. There is a saying that dreams only come true in America. Well, the system of society is such that it is open to one and all, and what they have to offer. If you’re good at something, don’t shy away from it because, in this great land, you can be whomever and whatever you aspire to be. There are countless opportunities available for your dreams to be realized, and you have the freedom to cease these opportunities. This freedom in America essay example highlights to us what freedom in America is and what is special about it. The truth is that the American society is so advanced that people have the freedom to hold a different political, religious and social belief without any repercussions so long as it doesn’t negatively affect others. The liberty expressed in America is an inspiration to most societies today. This is why American freedom deserves the attention it gets. It is an anchor for communities across the globe.

Unfortunately, until today, an exit plan has never been fully implemented. People in Afghanistan continue to live under fear of attacks and without freedom of self-governance. In this extent, considering the roles played by the US in terms of stabilizing different nations including Iraq and Afghanistan, its capacity to constitute one of the best aspirations for freedom around the world remains questionable. Since the emergence of the war, which took place after the toppling of the Taliban’s government between the US and allied troops in Afghanistan and later to include the Afghanistan government, tens of thousands of ordinary civilians have lost their lives

In addition, ‘over 4,000 ISAF soldiers and civilian contractors as well as over 10,000 Afghan National Security Forces also died’ (Keppel 2008, p.63). Although many of the people who have perished in the war are Taliban insurgents and ordinary civilians, statistical findings on the number of deaths of security forces from the Afghanistan government and ISAF indicates that the Afghanistan war had a negative ramification on civilians and the security forces. The main question that emerges here is whether it is necessary to erode the freedom of life of thousands of innocent people in the name of pursuing a small group of terrorists. Can other nations emulate the US strategies of protecting its sovereignty while such efforts lead to the loss of innocent lives? Although deaths and casualties that were encountered in the Afghanistan war from 2001 up to date are due to the operations of the Taliban against the US and NATO forces, international reactions point the largest finger of blame to the Taliban and al-Qaida insurgents. For instance, the United Nations attributes 76% of all civilian casualties in the Afghanistan war from 2001 to 2009 to Taliban (Keppel 2008). The AIGRC (Afghanistan independent human rights commission) referred to acts of terrorism by Taliban against the group’s fellow citizens as war crimes. Amnesty international built on this line of argument by claiming that Taliban war crimes involved the attacking of civilians, killing of teachers, worker abductions, and setting of schools ablaze (Keppel 2008).

In brief, having the right to say whatever you want is extremely important in this society, maybe even the most important right of all. Imagine not being able to say what you think. The government would completely pulverize our identity and we would not even make an impact in the world

We would just be there. Like I had stated before, great men and women have spoken out and have made great changes. Whether it be speaking out against the government or introducing a new theory, this would not be possible without our freedom of speech.
